The SLR McLaren draws comparisons to the Enzo Ferrari and Porsche Carrera GT, but its automatic transmission and refined driving characteristics will cause some to put it in a class with the Aston Martin Vanquish or Ferrari 599 GTB.
The SLR in the name comes from the German words Sport, Light, and Racing. That's part of the philosophy behind this car. Another part is luxury and driveability. It is one of the fastest automatic transmission cars in the world, although technically it's only a partially automatic transmission with driver gear select available on all models.
This car is sold as either a 2 door coupe or a 2 door roadster. Both models come with a 5.5 liter supercharged V8 engine, which makes 617 horsepower and is mounted in the middle front of the car.
The transmission is a 5 speed automatic with 3 mode select: sport, manual, and comfort. That allows the driver to drive this car how they want to. Top speed is somewhere in the area of 205 miles per hour, with 0 to 60 times around 3.5 seconds.
These cars sell for about $400,000. You can find them used, but very rarely. Check on eBay, as a lot of high value cars end up being sold on there.
