The original Mercury Capri was a pony car, or rather a small pony car. It was considered a "baby Mustang." It was a 3 door hatchback with an I4 or V6 engine. They all had rear wheel drive.
The second generation Capri was introduced in 1979 and was based on the Ford Fox platform. There were several special editions of this car, including the Black Magic from 1981 to 1983, the White Lightning from 1981 to 1982, the Crimson Cat in 1983, the Charcoal Turbo RS in 1984, the ASC McLaren Coupe and Convertible from 1984 to 1986, and the Motorsport Capri Grand Prix IV Pace Car in 1985. Most of the differences from the base model were cosmetic.
The third generation Capris from the early 1990's are probably the ones that most people remember. They were front wheel drive 2 door roadsters. It was designed to compete against the Miata, even though it used Mazda 323 parts. It was only sold from 1991 until 1994.
These cars can be bought used from your local classifieds, but you'll find better deals on used cars and parts on eBay.
