The original Rambler sold from 1950 to 1952 ran on a straight 6 cylinder engine making 82 horsepower. This may have seemed underpowered, but it also was lighter than the competition and got better fuel mileage, which of course was not the major concern at that time as it is today.
The 1953 to 1955 Rambler models saw the car getting bigger to accommodate a larger family. The 2 door coupe was joined by a 2 door sedan and a 4 door sedan, along with a 4 door wagon for the ultimate family-toting cargo car.
By 1956 and 1957, the Rambler was only sold as a 4 door car. The V8 engine was introduced to this model in 1957 for the first time. A special high performance version was made in that year and called the Rambler Rebel. It was considered by many to be the the car that inspired the muscle car movement of the 1960's.
This car is valued by many car collectors today. You can find these cars listed on eBay, and you can also find Rambler parts on there for shockingly low prices.
