The current prices for a new Sentra range from about $15,000 for the bare bones base model to $21,000 for a Sentra with all the luxury and sports performance options.

The original Sentra was a subcompact car. The first generation was sold from 1982 to 1986. It was sold as a sedan, hatchback, station wagon, and coupe. All models had an I4 engine. Some markets got an I4 diesel.

The second generation was sold from 1986 to 1990. Four wheel drive was offered for the first time.

The fourth genereation Sentra was sold from 1995 to 1999. By now, the coupe model was dropped and only the sedan remained. Still, there were many different trims, including Base, XE, GXE, GLE, SE, and SE Limited.

The fifth and sixth generation Sentras saw the introduction of such features as the manual CVT transmission. Although still a smaller midsize or compact car, they are gaining more performance with each year and are slowly involving into a sporty economy car.
