The 944 was sold as a 2 door coupe and a 2 door convertible. There were three different engines sold with this car, all of the Inline 4 cylinders.
Aside from the base model, there were several variations of the 944. They include the 944 Turbo, which was also called the 951, the 944S, 944S2, 944S2 Cabriolet, 944 GTP, and 944 Turbo Cup.
This car received a lot of praise from various U.S. auto publications. Car and Driver named it to its Ten Best list for 1983, 1984, and 1985. The 944 Turbo made it to the list for 1986. The magazine also called the 944 the Best Handling Production Car in America in 1984.
These cars are still very popular on the racing circuit. You can buy a restored or original 944 from a variety of places, such as AutoTrader and Hemmings, but they tend to specialize in American classics and get fewer listings for Porsches. Therefore, the easiest place to find a 944 for sale is on eBay. Last I check there were at least 5 listings for Porsche 944's, and I won't even try to count how many parts listings.
