The Porsche Boxster has been sold with a variety of flat 6 engines. The Boxster S is a higher performance version of the Boxster that has the larger 3.2 liter flat 6 engine. That model has been sold since 2000.

Many people wonder where the Boxster name comes from. It is actually a combination of the words "Boxer," which describes the horizontal boxer engine, and "Roadster."
