The Porsche Boxster
has been sold with a variety of flat 6 engines. The Boxster S is a higher performance version of the Boxster that has the larger 3.2 liter flat 6 engine. That model has been sold since 2000.
Many people wonder where the Boxster name comes from. It is actually a combination of the words "Boxer," which describes the horizontal boxer engine, and "Roadster."
Throughout much of its production, the Boxster was the entry-level Porsche, often with a retail price hovering around $30,000.
The 987, which was introduced in 2005, offered a performance upgrade over the previous Boxster model, the 986. The Porsche Cayman series has since been derived from the 987 as is now considered the true entry-level version of the 911 series.
Expect to see a redesigned Boxster to be introduced for the 2010 model year.
You can find plenty of Porsche Boxsters out there on the used car market if you know where to look. They tend to hold value better than most other sports cars. You can probably find at least 6 listings for Boxsters on eBay right now. |
