The ION was sold as a 2 door coupe, 4 door sedan and 4 door coupe. The engine options included a L61 or LE5 I4 or a LSJ supercharged I4. These engines were paired with either a 5 speed manual or 4 speed automatic transmission.
The Saturn ION Redline was the top performance ION model. It had the supercharged engine, which made 205 horsepower, along with other performance features like stiffer springs, performance sway bars, better quality revalved shock absorbers, and lowered ride. It also had Recaro racing seats and ground effects, so everyone would know you weren't driving the base model.
Generel Motors originally had plans to keep the ION line going with a major redesign for the 2008 model year, but instead they decided to discontinue the car and replace it with a new-for-the-United States Astra hatchback. The car is already known in Europe as the Opel Astra.
I've seen plenty of Saturn IONs on the used car market, and it seems that more are popping up every day. You can get some very good deals if you know where to look. Try using eBay to find a decent deal on a used Saturn ION. Other choices include Craigslist.org, where you can search classifieds for just your local area.
