A Question Of Character
Maybe you think of John McCain as basically a pretty heroic guy who only recently sold his soul, turning his back on a career as a straight-talking, reformist "maverick." If you live in America, it's hard not to have internalized the McCain brand, at least in part. But it's a load of bull. Tom Dickinson has a long article at Rolling Stone that's a real eye-opener. All his life, McCain, like Dubya, has used family connections to fail upward. But if Bush is Fredo Corleone, McCain is Sonny, a hot-

Sad, Sad, Sad McPalin
Earthide Comments: It is looking sadder and sadder for the McPalin campaign everyday. Down in the polls, without any forward looking vision for America's future, McCain and Palin and their Rove-protege advisors are left with only one tactic: fear and smear directed at Barack Obama. For a "reformer" and self-described "maverick", it is a long fall into the gutter ... or is it? Opening Another ING Savings Account
The way ING does things is a little wonky. They make it seem like it’s so easy to open multiple savings jars under one account, but I know I’m not the first to find their way of doing it a little bit confusing. I don’t know — clicking on a link titled “Open an Account” indicates to me that I’ll be getting a new account number, login, and password. That’s a lot of hassle. Maybe that’s just me? But when you click on that link, that isn’t what happens. You keep your current account number, logi

Audi and Toyota Considering New Small (Very Small) Cars for the US
Toyota and Audi recently showed off their iQ and A1 small cars at the Paris Motor Show last week. Originally both automakers had not planned on introducing either car to the US market, but as everyone is now witnessing...small cars are in. Audi's worldwide sales and marketing boss, Peter Schwarzenbauer recently stated, " A year ago, I would have said no. I did not see any trend in the US which showed me that small cars could have a lasting, sustainable chance. I think this has changed. There

2008 Scion xB: Pointing Fingers
2008 Scion xB: Pointing Fingers Hop into a Scion (or Toyota, for that matter) and you'll typically find most controls easy to use. But our xB has one annoying misstep -- the trip computer button. Instead of being located on the easily-reached center stack (as in a Ford or GM product), it's next to the trip meter button within the instrument cluster, requiring you to awkwardly reach over the steering wheel to prod with your finger. Not cool for something you might want to toggle th

not a joke
David Horowitz, writing on 17 September 2001: ON THE MORNING OF THE ATTACKS on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, along with a million other readers of the New York Times including many who would never be able to read the paper again, I opened its pages to be confronted by a color photo showing a middle-aged couple holding hands and affecting a defiant look at the camera. The article was headlined in an irony that could not have been more poignant, "No Regrets For A Love Of Explosives."

McCain's judment and veracity as an aviator
The LA Times reports Navy conclusions that McCain demonstrated poor judgment in his three peacetime crashes. What the Times does not highlight is that McCain almost certainly lied about the causes of two of the accidents. In each case, McCain blamed engine failure. Conclusive evidence shows the engine operated normally in one; in the other there was no technical evidence to suggest engine problems. A fair conclusion is that McCain's propensity for the self-serving untruth, on display in the curr

On McCain's Negative Campaign, Or, Oh No You Didn't
Apparently feeling there’s no other way to win, the McCain campaign is now trying to “go negative” in an effort to make Obama unelectable. Obama has tried to stay above that sort of thing...and while Obama may be a better human being than that...I’m not. We will divert away from the usual high minded conversation about issues today—and we will instead lay out a few unpleasant facts John McCain would rather you forget about. Some of today’s discussion reveals McCain’s financial corruption...
