There were a total of 4 engines sold with the Esteem, although some were only available on certain body types. All of them were 4 cylinder engines, although only 3 were gasoline. A 4 cylinder diesel was only sold in select markets.
The second generation of the Esteem began in 1999. The 5 door station wagon was upgraded to a bigger 1.8 liter engine from the previous 1.6 liter. In other markets, the larger engine version would be sold as the Esteem Sport Wagon. This same engine would be installed in the smaller hatchback in some markets and called the Baleno GTi.
The Esteem line was discontinued in the United States in 2002, although it was still sold in Asia until 2007. It was replaced by the Aerio in this country, but the cars were both sold during the 2002 model year.
Finding a used Esteem shouldn't be too hard. There are many websites that make it easy to find many listings for a used Suzuki Esteem. The first place I'd go to is eBay, and the second is Craigslist. Finally, I'd simply look in my local classifieds.
