The first generation Solara was sold from 1999 until 2003. It was sold with either an I4 engine or a V6 making 200 horsepower. These were the same engines featured in the Camry, but they were tuned to add a few extra horsepower. The SE and SLE convertible models were added in 2000. Some major changes were made in the Solara starting in 2002. Along with styling redesigns, the engines were upgraded. The fuel economy of these cars remained the same, but the power output was increased.
The second generation Solara was sold from 2004 until 2008. It was far more sleek than the previous car, with more curves in the body and sleek headlights. The I4 engine was basically the same as before, but the V6 was all new with much more horsepower. Only the I4 models could be purchased with manual transmission. The V6 Solara only came with a 5 speed automatic.
With the discontinuation of the Solara, expect to more of them hit the used car market as buyers look for the next big thing from Toyota. That means there could be some great deals out there. Keep your eyes peeled, especially on sites like eBay, where there are some incredible deals on cars if you just catch them at the right time.
